BEST OF 2017 | WORST OF 2017 | NIGEL’S TOP 10 | PÁRAIC’S TOP 10 | FRIENDS OF SPOOOOL
10) Good Time
Only saw this a couple of weeks ago but is a visceral day in the life of a hapless brother. Reminded me so much of Adam and Paul.
9) The Eyes of My Mother
Could only recommend to close friends and family who know I’m not a sicko. An incredibly tense and visually arresting film.
8) My life as a Courgette
Treats children with the respect they deserve and handles serious issues in a frank and honest manner.
7) Lady Macbeth
The second horror film on my list. The silences and pauses make it a gripping and shocking outing.
6) The Death of Stalin
Deserves to stand alongside Dr. Strangelove as one of the best satires in many years.
5) The Farthest
Mind blowing examination of our place in the universe.
4) Paddington 2
As good if not better than the original. All the cast are on form including the new edition of Hugh Grant. Was that Kilmainham Gaol?
3) Loving
The subtle understated manner in which a couple express their love for one another makes this a stand out of the year.
2) Manchester by The Sea
A devastating film dealing with loss, guilt and shame with so many sucker punches and showing one of the best representations of brothers on screen.
1) Maudie
One woman’s simple desire to be truly loved.
